Alastor can be a tricky muse, between the blend of serious and goofy and his nature as a character from two different series. Anything to say about how I'm playing him? Feel free to leave a comment with constructive criticism here! (Note: this journal is exclusively for the anime version, who has major differences from the games version.)

superstylishsquid: (Uh-huh interesting.)
This is Alastor. I'm a bit busy right now, but leave a message and I'll get back to you when I have a chance.
superstylishsquid: (Default)
Between Alastor's telepathic/empathic abilities and the fact that he literally lives in the movies, it's very easy to cross into infomodding with him. So to avoid that, I have here a handy little permissions post for these abilities.

Telepathy: Simply put, is he allowed to read your character's thoughts or project his voice into their mind?
Empathy: Can he sense your character's emotions? Normally he has to do this deliberately, but he might pick up on particularly strong emotions without even trying.
Is your character from a movie? Self explanatory.
If yes, can he be aware of this? If you'd rather not have your character directly fourth walled, he could have been through a movie that's remarkably similar but not quite the same.
If no, can he be aware of popular references to your character's canon? No major details, but things he might find in a show within a show or similar shout outs.

(Players from Daybreak Academy only need to answer the first two questions.)

Alastor

Type
Selkie

Age
~4700 (Appears late-20s)

Height
6' plus horns

Pronouns
Any, default he/him

Appearance + Pings

Tall and athletic, with well toned musculature and a conventionally handsome face. His most striking features are the dark purple/black bat wings on his back, with a wingspan about the same as the span of his arms, and the similarly colored spaded tail. Without his helmet, it's also obvious that he has long, pointed ears, horns similar to those of an ibex, and glowing white eyes that lack pupils or irises. His skin is subtly purple, with the inside of his mouth and other areas that would typically be pink on a human instead a deep shade of indigo, and he blushes violet. He also has retractable claws on his fingers the same color as his horns, and four toes to a foot with sharply pointed toenails that border on being talons. Visual reference here. Also, until he gets certain powers back, assume he has his sword with him at all times.

As for pings, even a completely mundane human would be able to tell he smells like the air during a thunderstorm, like ozone and wet air. To magical senses, this is clearly a supernatural predator, and a powerful user of dark magic. He's recognizable as a demon, and a powerful one at that, with part of his soul in his sword. To those who can sense elemental affinity, he has a strong one for lightning, and a secondary one for wind.

Player Comfort Notes

No bathroom stuff, but otherwise I'm very difficult to gross out. On a non-squick note, however, I'm very uncomfortable with having being 'not normal' talked about as though it's inherently a bad thing

superstylishsquid: (Would you look at that.)
For post-round shenanigans with Alastor, including renting his services as a multiversal taxi. People who wanted to keep in touch would have been told the proper pronunciation of his name to draw his attention from wherever he may be.
superstylishsquid: (Would you look at that.)
[A while after Alastor asked Roland to step out for a moment, Aoi leaves the room and Alastor pokes his head out to look around for his boyfriend.]

C'mon, you can get back to bed now.
superstylishsquid: (I'm going to have to beat you now.)
[Zack probably isn't expecting a request to see him in the chapel, but that's exactly what he gets after tempers have had some time to cool from the motive. Roland, evidently, wants to meet him there to talk, though Alastor gives no indications as to what about when he delivers the message. Perhaps it's ominous when the devil insists on tagging along despite the motive having him in a less than chatty mood, or perhaps not.

Whatever Zack makes of it, he'll find that it's not just Roland waiting for him. Moriarty is also there, and Alastor moves to lean against the back of one of the pews.]

So, one of you wanna open up, or should I?

Tall and athletic. He has the lean build of a runner or martial artist rather than a football player or wrestler.

2. How old is he? What’s his birthday?
~4000 years old and even he doesn't know his birthday by the modern calendar.

3. Describe his posture. Does he carry himself well or does he slouch?
Tall and proud. In his forms that have it, he always keeps his tail lifted off the ground.

4. How is his health? Is he fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities?
Very spry for a guy his age! He's very athletically fit and in perfect health.

5. How does he move? Is he clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid?
Graceful and deliberate. He moves like a trained fighter.

He is, as he puts it, a very handsome devil. He's even been called a pretty boy in canon.

Very dark gray, almost black.

Unusually long and pointed ears, glowing eyes, two small fangs and cloven hooves with sharpened points that resemble claws. Normally. In his mortal form, he just has the pointed ears, in full demon form he has a mouth full of fangs, horns, glowing red eyes, clawed cloven hooves, the ears, a demonic tail and a strange gold and blue pattern on his chest.

12. What are his chief tension centers?
His tail when he has it, plus his hands...when he has them. He has a tendency to clench his fists as a response to frustration or anger normally, he paws at the ground as a pony.

13. What is the character's wardrobe like, if he wears clothes? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does he have six of the same suit?
Depends on the form. He wears no clothes in full demon form, wears a purple spandex suit and helmet in his usual form and a priest's outfit with a white stole embroidered with winged skulls in mortal form.

14. Do his clothes fit well? Does he seem comfortable in them?
They seem like they were tailored to fit.

15. Does he dress the same on the job as he does in his free time? If not, what are the differences?

Smooth and suave. He has the kind of voice women swoon over.

He usually speaks with a casual tone and volume, frequently with a hint of amusement.

3. Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics?
He manages to sound politely casual and occasionally shows a large vocabulary.

4. What language/s does he speak, and with how much fluency?
Demonic, Ancient Greek, Latin and English, all fluent. He can also understand the Biankie language.

5. Does he switch languages or dialects in certain situations?
He pretty much sticks with English. He will use a much harsher vocabulary when angered, though.

He's just fine with ad lib.

Mental and Emotional
1. How intelligent (IQ, emotional IQ, social IQ, etc.) is this character? Is he book-smart or street-smart?
He's pretty bright and both well read and genre savvy. He's pretty dumb when it comes to his own emotions, though...

2. Does he think on his feet, or does he need time to deliberate?
He thinks very fast.

3. Describe the character's thought process. Is he more logical, or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical?
Logical and practical. He has trouble understanding his own thought process when he acts on impulse, though he's working on thinking in more trusting terms.

4. What kind of education has the character had?
He graduated with honors from the school of hard knocks. Other than that, he's picked things up from personal studies.

5. What are his areas of expertise? What, if anything, is he interested in learning more about?
He's a talented swordsman, skilled magic user and knowledgeable about pop culture regarding movies. He's trying to understand human ideas regarding heroism vs self-interest.

Fight, fight and fight some more, only retreating if he has personal reasons.

Obnoxious. He enjoys jokes at others' expense, slapstick and really bad puns.

12. Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If yes, how does he deal with them?
He's...actually pretty sane for a guy who spent 2000 years imprisoned on a mostly abandoned island. Mostly he's just terrible at self-awareness.

13. What moments in this character's life have defined him as a person?
Defying Mundus and dying for it and his realization saving Joe from Fire Leo that he's not really much of a villain. In game, confronting his Shadow and being freed from Dante's service.

14. What does he fear?
Silvia Being rendered helpless again.

15. What are his hopes or aspirations?
Defeating a worthy rival and, secretly (less secretly in game) doing good for those weaker than him.

16. What is something he doesn't want anyone to find out about him?
That he's actually a good person (over this in game) and that he has a massive crush on his rival's girlfriend.

Relationships
1. Describe this character's relationship with his parents.
Hahaha. They could die in a fire and he'd be perfectly happy.

2. Does the character have any siblings? What is/was their relationship like?
Two older siblings, a water/earth demon and a soul eating demon who ruled the underworld before Mundus. He was rather antagonistic with both, particularly the former, who resented his elemental advantage and considered him too soft to have more authority than him.

3. Are there other blood relatives to whom he is close? Are there ones he can't stand?
None that he knows of.

4. Are there other, unrelated people whom he considers part of his family? What are his relationships with them?
The Three Eyed Goddess, Artemis. She was the closest thing he had to a trusted second in command and he trusted her more than he did his real family. They shared a master as Devil Arms until Dante released Alastor.

5. Who is/was the character's best friend? How did they meet? He'd never admit it, but Dante and Joe. Dante found him as a Devil Arm on Mallet Island and claimed him as a servant, while he met Joe in Movieland while in the service of the evil organization that had kidnapped the fledgling hero's girlfriend. Alastor has special ways of making friends.

6. Does he have other close friends?
Silvia and Captain Blue Jr., plus Lyra in game. Naturally he has trouble admitting to this.

7. Does he make friends easily, or does he have trouble getting along with people?
He gets along well with others as long as they can tolerate his sense of humor, but he's loathe to actually call anyone a friend, even if it's blatant.

8. Which does he consider more important: family or friends?
He'd claim neither, but in reality, friends.

9. Is the character single, married, divorced, widowed? Has he been married more than once?
Single and never married, despite what mythology would say.

10. Is he currently in a romantic relationship?
He has a date with an NPC, but who knows how that'll pan out.

11. Who was his first crush? Who is his latest?
His first crush was some human in ancient Greece. His latest is Silvia, his rival's girlfriend.

12. What does he look for in a romantic partner?
Someone good natured but full of spunk. Ability to kick some tail is a major plus.

13. Does the character have children? Grandchildren? If yes, how does he relate to them? If no, does he want any?
Nope, no children. He wouldn't be adverse to starting a family some day, though.

14. Does he have any rivals or enemies?
Viewtiful Joe, his fierce rival...but it's more friendly than he might admit. On the serious enemies side, he has a grudge against Sprocket and will gladly screw her over at every opportunity.

15. What is the character's sexual orientation? Where does he fall on the Kinsey scale?
A solid 3. Sex and gender make absolutely no difference to him, nor does species as long as the other creature is a person.

Beliefs
1. Do you know your character's astrological (zodiac of choice) sign? How well does he fit type?
According to mythological associations, Leo. Despite the irony of his antagonistic relationship with Fire Leo, it fits him perfectly.

2. Is this character religious, spiritual, both, or neither? How important are these elements in his life?
He is, ironically, religious. It doesn't dominate his life, but he does credit God for especially conspicuous coincidences.

3. Does this character have a personal code of morals or ethics? If so, how did that begin? What would it take to compromise it?
He follows a code of honor that keeps him from killing anyone who isn't an actual threat or attacking by surprise. It's rooted in his natural sense of kindness that's been twisted and eroded by demonic culture into a moral skeleton that he can justify with pride.

4. How does he regard beliefs that differ from his? Is he tolerant, intolerant, curious, indifferent?
Curious, especially if they conflict with parts of his own beliefs that make him uncomfortable. He wants to know why people think like that and if there's anything solid to it.

5. What prejudices does he hold? Are they irrational or does he have a good reason for them?
He tends to dislike succubi, since they're frequently very pushy and he doesn't like having his life energy nommed on. Bat creatures also tend to remind him of two people he strongly dislikes.

Daily Life
1. What is the character's financial situation? Is he rich, poor, comfortable, in debt?
He's pretty comfortable, though not quite rich just yet.

2. What is his social status? Has this changed over time, and if so, how has the change affected him?
He used to be a demon lord, now he's an outcast traitor to his species. As a result, he's gotten even more in touch with human culture than he already was and his own more human tendencies have gotten stronger.

3. Where does he live? House, apartment, trailer? Is his home his castle or just a place to crash? What condition is it in? Does he share it with others?
In game, he has a literal castle made out of clouds. At the moment he lives alone, but he's willing to let that change. It's too quiet with just him there.

4. Besides the basic necessities, what does he spend his money on?
Sweets, entertainment and decorations for his castle.

5. What does he do for a living? Is he good at it? Does he enjoy it, or would he rather be doing something else?

superstylishsquid: (I guess we can work together this time.)
Maybe I misjudged Dante. I didn't think I was going to get any kind of actual consideration out of him, but I was wrong.

It turned out that the Changeling queen had gotten her perforated paws on my sword. I don't know how she kept me from identifying it until now, but it's moot at this point. It went up for auction as part of the most exciting clearance sale ever. I was determined to win it, but Dante outbid me. I was pretty angry that he had the guts to try to reclaim me after all the time I'd spent as a glorified wall ornament in his service, but...he surprised me.

After he won the sword, he did the last thing any demon expects their master to do in the face of desertion. He released me from his service and returned my sword. He even admitted that he'd done wrong by me and was holding me back by not giving me proper attention.

So, that's it. I'm a free demon again, my entire soul belongs to me. It's been two thousand years since I could honestly say I was free...it's going to take a while to get used to. Right now, it just seems too good to be true.
superstylishsquid: (Why are you hugging me?)
I've seen some strange New Years in my days, but today takes the cake. The town was invaded by shapeshifting bugs called Changelings. It was like the Revenge of the Copy Aliens, only with more spite hanging in the air. I could sense it without even trying and it gave me more of a headache than the buzzing of their wings. Smacking them down was pretty satisfying, although I did promise I would at least try non-lethal force. They weren't much tougher than Flatties, though, so it wasn't really a problem.

I ended up fighting their queen too. That was a bit tougher, I suppose worthy of its background music. She even managed to dodge my opening attack, though not without getting a new haircut. The fight got pretty crazy, but long story short, she got overthrown. They have a new queen now, one who's more inclined toward peace.

Still, I'm starting to wonder if the holidays are always this busy around here.
